Movement Slides
Incorporating movement slides into your warm-up routine is an excellent way to prepare your students' bodies for physical activity. Each slide provides specific instructions for stretching and mobilizing different parts of the body to improve flexibility. You can use these to lead your class in a warmup or you can allow a student to use the slides to lead the warmup for the class. (Want a choice board instead? Download the Movement Choice Board).
Ideas for Using Movement Slides:
-
Warm-Up Routine: Play your favorite song and display the slides on a screen. Instruct students to follow the directions on each slide, moving their bodies accordingly. This can help increase blood flow, warm up the muscles, and prepare the body for your next activity.
-
Creative Movement Exploration: Movement slides can also serve as a source of inspiration for creative movement exploration. Encourage students to interpret the movements in their own, unique way. For example, they can experiment with different tempos, levels, or qualities of movement.
-
Group Choreography: Divide your students into small groups and provide each group with a set of movement slides. Instruct them to create a short choreography incorporating a specified number of movements from the slides. This activity promotes teamwork, cooperation, and creative problem-solving. Each group can then perform their choreography for the rest of the class.
Movement slides help students develop a strong mind-body connection by encouraging them to focus on the sensations and movements of their bodies. As they engage in the prescribed movements, they become more aware of their muscles, joints, and overall body alignment.
